The man suspected of carrying out the attack on a Christmas market in Berlin earlier this week was killed in a shootout with authorities in Milan Friday morning.

CNN reports that Anis Amri, 24, was stopped during a routine traffic check in Milan at around 3 a.m. local time.

When asked to show his identification, Amri pulled out a gun and fired at Italian police, shooting one in the shoulder.

The driver of the police car returned fire, killing the terror suspect.

Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti said in a press conference Friday that the man who was shot was "without any doubt" Amri.

He had previously lived in Italy, according to his records.

Footage of the suspect emerged just hours after he was killed showing Amri pledging allegiance to ISIS. No mention of the Berlin attack was made during the video, reports CNN
