The U.S. Supreme Court announced it will be hearing a case related to President Trump’s controversial travel ban and, in the meantime, allowed for parts of his ban to stay in place.

According to CNN, the Supreme Court reversed decisions by lower courts that completely struck down Trump’s travel ban from six predominantly majority-Muslim countries. CNN states the Supreme Court agreed to hear oral arguments on the issue in the fall.

While upholding parts of the ban, the Washington Post reports the Supreme Court decided the travel ban could “not be enforced against foreign nationals who have a credible claim of a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.”

In a statement on the White House website, President Trump hailed the Supreme Court’s decision as a “clear victory for our national security.”

“As President, I cannot allow people into our country who want to do us harm.  I want people who can love the United States and all of its citizens, and who will be hardworking and productive,” he said.

“My number one responsibility as Commander in Chief is to keep the American people safe.  Today's ruling allows me to use an important tool for protecting our Nation's homeland.  I am also particularly gratified that the Supreme Court’s decision was 9-0,” he continued.

USA Today notes that with the Supreme Court hearing the case in the fall, the court could decided to strike down the ban entirely.
