For people that are constantly calling pretty much any gathering of more than two people “superspreader events,” the elitist politicians, media and celebrities sure do love to have parties of their own despite their renewed, restrictive edicts to the plebs (you and me).
Former President Barack Obama is slated to be holding a 60th birthday party for himself in Martha’s Vineyard — for reportedly “nearly 700 people,” according to the New York Post.
The party for elites comes despite calls by establishment figures to reimpose COVID restrictions on the general public.
The Post reported that “George Clooney, Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey” are among the nearly 500 guests, combined with “about 200 hired hands.”
New York State congresswoman Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island) called out the double standard of holding such a party, while also defending the right to do so.
“Just like President Obama, every American should have the right to celebrate their milestones without arbitrary government mandates and interference,” Malliotakis said. “We all know if this was President Trump the left would be screaming.”
She’s absolutely correct.
The criticism of Obama’s party is not to say that he shouldn’t be having the party, but rather that they’re holding the event while holding the general public to a different, authoritarian standard.
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) was not as cordial when it came to criticizing Obama for the planned party.
“Typical liberal, ‘do as I say, not as I do,’” Stefanik said. “This is what socialism looks like.”
Stefanik is also correct in her assessment, since socialists — almost always — have one set of rules for themselves while holding the public in contempt for wanting to be able to do similar things.
