Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg went full on smelly-patriot mode in his latest Facebook post and Hollywood, of course, is not happy about it. He may just be trying to appease the few conservatives who still like him, but instead he found himself being mocked by celebs and journalists from both sides of the aisle.
When the Big Tech billionaire posted a live video of himself on a hydrofoil surfboard carrying an American flag, social media exploded with hate and questions about whether or not the video was authentic. Zuckerberg had late folk singer John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" playing in the background while he was gliding through the water on his more than $12,000 surfboard.
Take a look:
Left-wing celebrities like John Cusack, who have grown wealthy from our country but still promote hatred towards America, made sure to voice his very loud opinion - as he always does.
The flag as a symbol of the right for oligarchs not to pay tax - https://t.co/UA2n6T50I2— John Cusack (@johncusack) July 5, 2021
While many of the comments were positive and mostly making fun of Zuckerberg, there were many people who were triggered by seeing the 'oligarch' show off his patriotism. We already know that the New York Times' (NYT) Mara Gay is "disturbed" by the flag. It must be a requirement to work there because BuzzFeed News senior tech reporter and future NYT Tech journalist Ryan Mac had this to say about the video:
Facebook’s PR team spent years trying to craft Zuckerberg’s image, which is funny because the strategy now seems to be “let the dude let his freak flag fly” https://t.co/XwFKJuUeZS— Ryan Mac🙃 (@RMac18) July 4, 2021
Professor and podcast host Scott Galloway is not the biggest fan of the tech giant and posted multiple tweets ragging on Zuck for his video. He didn't hold back with this one:
You (Zuckerberg) have:— Scott Galloway (@profgalloway) July 5, 2021
—Perverted our elections;
—Depressed American teens; and
—Made discourse more coarse.
Bitch, you should never hold a US flag. https://t.co/dskELCqSQD
Well, he's not wrong.
Activist and head of emerging tech at H&M Christopher Wylie tweeted the video with the caption, "Mark Zuckerberg is trying to act human again." The Facebook creator has been loathed by those on the right who have been fighting against Big Tech censorship for years, and now the lefties are joining in. All it took was for him to pick up an American flag and show support for our great country.
It must be hard for Zuckerberg to not cancel all of the people ragging on him right now. But, at least he's actually upholding the First Amendment in this case.
Bloomberg's Big Tech journalist, Sarah Frier, joined in on the criticism. Patriotism used to be a shared attribute despite your political beliefs, but we now have these crazies controlling our news.
When you’re the billionaire not flying to space so you go all in on America https://t.co/cgW3wS1LHz— Sarah Frier (@sarahfrier) July 4, 2021
You really can’t have the best of both worlds. Choose wisely, Zuck.
