Students at Antioch High School just outside of Nashville ripped down and desecrated an American flag during a school walkout to supposedly protest gun violence Wednesday.

Cell phone footage of the “protest” caught a group of students yanking the flag down from their school’s flag pole amid shouts of praise from their peers.

Meanwhile, inside the school, several other students got into an all-out brawl during the “walkout,” WSMV reports. Nashville police told another local news outlet that several students jumped on a cop car.

Student Meylin Zavala posted several cell phone clips of students partying, standing on tables, throwing objects, tossing water and pumping music during the “protest.”

The behavior was so bad, in fact, that the school system had to issue a public statement concerning the multiple incidents:

At [Metro Schools], we respect the right of our students to advocate for causes that are important to them. Unfortunately, some students on our Antioch campus today chose to protest in ways that significantly disrupted school operations and threatened the safety and order for other students and staff within our school. Swift action was taken by school security and MNPD to address the situation. No students or staff members were injured during the walkout.

Thankfully, most protests across the country were peaceful, even if largely aimless.
