Seniors at St. John’s University will be able to take a seminar in “Taco Literacy” in the spring 2018 semester.
As reported by Remezcla, professor Steven Alvarez brought his “Taco Literacy” course from the University of Kentucky to St. John's. According to a flier posted on the website dedicated to the course, the seminar will be taught as an English class.
The course will examine the “transnational Mexican foodways literacies in New York City from the angle of social justice, and how these foodways situate different literacies, rhetorics, and forms of cultural knowledge across borders.”
The course is, in fact, listed on the official St. John's English department website.
The syllabus for the previous University of Kentucky course asked students to share their views on Mexican food through mediums such as Instagram and WordPress.
In addition to writing about Mexican food, the class will try food around “Puebla York” and listen to lectures by guest speakers.
According to Remezcla, the course has 11 students enrolled.
