I gotta give CNN credit on this one. They may not have liked the news, but they still reported it. Heck, they even admitted that news like this could benefit President Donald Trump.

Thursday evening CNN reported that a former FBI lawyer is “under criminal investigation after allegedly altering a document related to 2016 surveillance of a Trump campaign adviser. CNN claims that this news is according to “several people briefed on the matter.”

According to CNN:

The possibility of a substantive change to an investigative document is likely to fuel accusations from President Donald Trump and his allies that the FBI committed wrongdoing in its investigation of connections between Russian election meddling and the Trump campaign. After CNN first reported on the investigation, the Washington Post reported that the inspector general concluded the alteration did not change the validity of the surveillance application.

The finding is expected to be part of Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz's review of the FBI's effort to obtain warrants under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act on Carter Page, a former Trump campaign aide. Horowitz will release the report next month.

Check out how bummed CNN seemed to be in having to report this story as compared to when they have one of their "bombshells":

CNN reported that the importance of the altered document on the case has not yet been determined, but Horowitz’s investigation should shed a little more light on the document’s impact. The report is scheduled to be released December 9th.

It was also noted that the lawyer in question was a “line attorney,” which CNN defined as a “lower level lawyer within the FBI.” The lawyer is no longer with the agency.
