We’ve all seen Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry do other-worldly things on a basketball court. Putting aside his far-left political views, Curry deserves a lot of credit for being an exceptional athlete and the current NBA career 3-point record-holder.

But the greatest shooter the sport has ever seen almost wasn’t even born. Steph’s mom, Sonya, almost aborted him during her pregnancy.

Sonya’s dilemma wasn’t just a one-time moment of vulnerability either. She had previously aborted one of her children before she was pregnant with Steph. But thanks to God intervening before she made the decision, she decided to continue her pregnancy with Steph.

“So God is just bringing it all together and showing me to be able to say, ‘Hey, here’s this decision I made at this point, and look at the blessing that he has become,’ and I just thank God for that and I just say to God that it was meant to be,” Curry said. “But, my favorite scripture says that all things get worked together for the good, and those called according to His purposes and praise Jesus. It all worked out. There’s Stephen, and look what he’s doing, and it’s just amazing to me.”

She detailed the rest of her story in an interview Bleav’s Your Mom podcast with Ashley Adamson and Lisa McCaffrey.

Sonya made the right call the second time around. But her decision was not valuable just because Steph became an NBA superstar.

Sonya did the right thing because she chose to preserve life, which is worth fighting for at all costs. All life is precious and God-ordained, and that reason alone makes abortion detestable. Even if Steph became nothing more than what society would call a “regular guy” - working a 9-5 job to support his family that lives in a quiet neighborhood - pushing through with her pregnancy would still have been the right decision.
