Ian and Brittani McIntire of Hutchinson, Kansas were devastated to learn that one of their unborn twins is unlikely to survive.

Mason, who they already named, has an abnormal brain and a hole in his heart. Although doctors could perform heart surgery, they won't because of his brain.

In their grief, the family has found solace in a sonogram of their twins. In the photograph, their unborn daughter Madilyn is seen holding hands with her brother Mason.

"We know we have a piece of them together that will last forever and it's special to have," said Brittani, who has two other children with her husband.

If Mason survives, he will be delivered via C-section along with Madilyn. If he doesn't survive, the family has been able to find some comfort through the photo.

"She's the only one who can actually be there and holding onto him through it," Brittani said. "So it's comforting to know that if he does pass, he won't be alone."
