Many politicians talk about being pro-life, but Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.) has truly walked the walk.

According to a CNN report, right after being reelected to her second term in Congress, Beutler found out she and her husband were expecting their first child. Then, some heartbreaking news came.

At the first ultrasound, Beutler and her husband, Dan, learned that their daughter had Potter Syndrome, a condition that prevents a baby's kidneys from developing. Beutler told CNN: "[The doctor] just leaned forward and he said, 'I can't see any kidneys. I don't think your baby has any kidneys.' And I knew -- and we knew it was -- whatever it was was bad."

Doctors told the Beutlers that the condition was fatal, and abortion was the only option. But the congresswoman and her husband didn't buy that.

"Being able to hear the heartbeat ... we had this gut feeling of there has to be something -- I mean, a doctor may say it, but she's moving. That's pretty convincing. We know she's still alive," Beutler said.

After being refused by several doctors, Beutler found a physician in Maryland to perform a life-saving procedure to help her child survive.

Rep. Beutler became the ninth legislator to give birth while in office. Her daughter, Abigail is now three years old and, in 2016, received a kidney from her father
