Shia LaBeouf Arrested for Assaulting a Man at His Anti-Trump Display

Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested Thursday morning after assaulting a man outside of his anti-Donald Trump installation in Queens.

After President Trump’s inauguration on Friday, LaBeouf put up an art installation at the Museum of the Moving Image called “He Will Not Divide Us.” The installation runs livestream 24 hours a day and will be running until the end of Trump’s presidency. According to the website for the “He Will Not Divide Us” project, “the public” is invited to repeat “he will not divide us” “for as long as they wish” as an alleged act of resistance against the Trump presidency.

In a video posted Thursday, LaBeouf is seen yelling into the camera about someone being a Nazi while people emotionlessly chant “he will not divide us.” An officer is later seen handcuffing LaBeouf and pulling him out of frame (warning: strong language):

The New York Times reports LaBeouf was arrested for misdemeanor assault and harassment following the incident. LaBeouf allegedly shoved a 25-year-old man, ripped his scarf, and scraped his neck.

It is unclear what the man said that upset LaBeouf. The “He Will Not Divide Us” Twitter claims LaBeouf was arrested for shoving a man who said “Hitler did nothing wrong.” TMZ, however, reports LaBeouf was arrested for a different incident. In TMZ's video, a man can be overheard saying “he hit me” off frame:

This isn’t the first time LaBeouf has gotten into an altercation with someone at his exhibit. He previously followed another person around for using the exhibit to say things he didn’t like. As a result of LaBeouf’s actions, TMZ reports the New York Police Department is watching LaBeouf’s exhibit.

LaBeouf will appear in court on April 4.
