Senate Committee Approves Kavanaugh, But Flake Wants FBI Investigation

The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, along with a request that the FBI conduct an investigation into sexual assault allegations against him, before a full vote on the Senate floor.

The move for the FBI investigation was made by Senator Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.)

"I do think that we can have a short pause and make sure that the FBI can investigate," Flake said.

"My understanding is that some of us would have to, and I'm prepared to do it, make a request to the White House to ask the FBI to do that investigation. It would be short and limited in scope to the current allegations that have been made."

Flake said he would make the vote to advance the nomination of Kavanaugh to the Senate floor with that understanding.

The Senate Judiciary Committee forwarded Kavanaugh's nomination with a 11- 10 party line vote.
