Sen. Hawley: Bailouts ‘Misguided’- Instead Focus on Jobs & Tax Cuts

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) says that lawmakers should not focus their attention on bailing out fiscally irresponsible state and local governments, but instead focus on jobs.

“Fiscally irresponsible states shouldn’t be using this as an opportunity to get free money from the taxpayer because it isn’t free,” the Republican Missouri lawmaker told Fox & Friends on Monday.

"Secondly that’s not the priority right now in the least -we need to be focused on jobs; we need to be focused on getting people back to work. All this talk about state and local bailouts is misguided.”

Hawley says he would like to see a payroll tax rebate enacted in order to allow businesses to bring back workers.

“An advanceable rebate that would actually help businesses cover payroll, right now. Would give them incentives to rehire the workers they’ve had to lay off, right now.  Let’s get that money into the hands of businesses so we can get it in to the hands of employees and let’s do it fast,” Hawley said.
