Say Her Name! Lori Lightfoot Gets Name of Fallen Officer Ella 'Franks' Wrong

Nick Kangadis | August 13, 2021

I’m sorry. You don’t have to like it, but Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is the absolute worst. If there isn’t an opportunity to virtue signal or be racist against white reporters, she doesn’t seem to be interested or, at the very least, have the wherewithal to pretend to care.

Following multiple days of Chicago Police Department (CPD) officers turning their backs on Lightfoot in the wake of the shooting death of CPD Officer Ella French during a routine traffic stop, Lightfoot took part in the city’s 2022 Budget Engagement Forum at Truman College on Thursday evening.

The polarizing mayor brought up the shooting incident, but made one very big mistake and disrespectful mistake — she got French’s name wrong.

The clip circulating around Twitter was cut off before Lightfoot finished the offending sentence.

“In the horrible tragedy, Ella Franks murder, one brother, who ended up taking the gun, jumped the fence…” Lightfoot said in the clip.

Lightfoot’s disrespect came just three days after CPD Superintendent David Brown also got French’s name wrong just minutes after getting it right.

“The gun used in this shooting and this murder of Ella Fitzgerald was illegally possessed,” Brown said.

Check out Brown’s flub amid the larger press conference below:

How difficult is it? How difficult is it for officials who claim to care so much for the people that protect them to get a fallen officer’s name right? Even if it was a mistake, do they not notice their mistake and attempt to correct them?

The answer is, no, they don’t.

Instead, we get pushback from people like Lightfoot, who has the audacity to talk about respect in response to CPD officers protest against her and her administration.

When asked what she thought of the officers turning their back on her, Lightfoot merely said that “we are living in a time where people don’t respect each other.”

Well, look in the mirror, Mayor Lightfoot. Because the seeds of discontent were planted by people like you.
