San Francisco is moving on from focusing on drug prevention to drug clean up.

The city is set to spend $750,000 to hire a team of 10 people to clean up dirty needles in the community.

SFGate.com reports, Mayor Mark Farrell will have the team respond to resident complaints and remove dirty needles and syringes from "hot spots" every day of the week.

Farrell says that discarded syringes on the streets are among the top litter complaints in the city with a growing homelessness problem.

The 10 new workers sole responsibility will be to clean up dirty needles. They will be managed by the current 4 person needle clean up team.

The team is just part of the $12.8 million plan to clean up San Francisco, with a focus on the trash, needles and street feces littering the city.

Previously  the city offered free needles through various exchange programs. Now, drug users can get as many clean needles they want, no “dirties” required.
