Russian Jets Simulate Attack on US Destroyer

Unarmed Russian fighter jets made two extremely close passes this week of a U.S. Navy ship sailing in the Baltic Sea.

According to CNN, the Pentagon has not commented publicly on the situation involving the USS Donald Cook, but there is an internal discussion about releasing video of the Russian flyover to demonstrate the danger the jets posed to the ship.

One of the Russian jets flew within 75 feet of the Cook. The unarmed Russian aircraft simulated an attack flight plan by swooping in over the ship’s deck.

Close encounters between Russian military aircraft and U.S. warships have become increasing common in recent months amid rising tensions about NATO’s plans for eastern Europe.

Last June, a Russian jet buzzed a U.S. guided-missile destroyer that was sailing in the Black Sea.
