Russia and Ukraine Are Fighting Over Sanctions...on Twitter

Twitter wars may soon be precursors to real conflict.

The official Twitter accounts for Russia and Ukraine duked it out in GIF format over recent sanctions the United States placed on Russia for its annexation of Crimea and military operations in Ukraine.

Russia began the battle by posting a tweet claiming, “Whoever comes to us with #sanctions, from sanctions will perish” before attaching a video of re-enactors from a folk festival:

Ukraine responded with a South Park GIF, claiming if Russia had “respected international law,” the country would have avoided the sanctions and “been sending missions to Mars now, not running with sticks”:

As Newsweek notes, this is not the first time Russia and Ukraine have fought over Twitter. The two recently argued over which country has the right to claim “Anne of Kiev” as their own:
