Russell Simmons Meditates At Occupy Wall Street Protest

A couple of things struck me about Russell Simmon's comments and decision to go all Maharishi at the big anti-capitalist protests this week.

First he made some incredibly uninformed and confusing statements in which he implied that there was some sort of "money grab" going on.

"They're taking all the money from the under served and who need it the most," said Simmons.

Really Russell?  Who's "taking money?"  Sure the economy is bad right now and a lot of people are having a difficult time, but no one is confiscating the hard earned money of the "under served."

Then, the protesters got in a big circle and began to "meditate for social change."   I'm not sure how that works.  But then I started thinking about how that differs from what conservatives do when they congregate.  Of course the Tea Party equivalent of meditating "..for social change" would be praying for your country.  However are any of us really surprised that secularism dominates at the Occupy Wall Street rally?  Of course not.

Finally, since the incredibly wealthy Russell Simmons trudged all the way down to Wall Street in order to  evoke class warfare rhetoric against his fellow upper class comrades, one would assume that Simmons himself does not engage in elitist behavior and frivolously flaunt his Def Comedy Jam money.

But a while back Fox News caught Simmons attending a swanky polo event in the Hamptons.  That doesn't seem like the kind of blue collar sporting event that an individual who speaks so forcefully against the excesses of the rich, would want to be seen attending.
