A Pew Research Center poll reveals people who identify as Republican and Republican-leaning are less optimistic about the future of the Republican Party than they were immediately after the election of President Trump.

Pew’s poll of 4,867 adults, conducted from Sept. 14-28, found that only 59 percent of Republicans are optimistic about the future of the party. That number's dropped by a full 20 percentage points since December, when 79 percent of Republicans responded they were optimistic about the future of the party.

Pew notes the number of Republicans who are pessimistic about the future of the GOP has “nearly doubled” from 20 percent in December to 39 percent in September.

Democrats’ optimism in their own party, meanwhile, has increased slightly from December, but is still down from November. In November, 77 percent of Democrats were optimistic about the future of their party. In December, it was only 61. Now, the number is up to 64 percent.
