A leaked draft of a majority opinion obtained by Politico reportedly reveals the Supreme Court will overturn the historic 1973 Roe v. Wade court decision that legalized abortion across the United States.

If true, the leaked opinion, reportedly written by Justice Samuel Alito, reveals the court decided 5 to 4 to overturn both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

Politico reports:

The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes.

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” he writes in the document, labeled as the “Opinion of the Court.” “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

Besides the obvious bombshell that the nation's highest court may overturn the landmark abortion case and send abortion decisions back to individual states, critics were also quick to note the incredible precedent of leaked draft opinions - or, rather, the lack of one.

As best anyone can tell, this would be the first time a draft opinion about any major case, much less one this massive, has leaked to the press before the official opinion was released (SCOTUS was not set to announce their decision on Roe until the summer).

Skeptics surmised that if the draft does prove to be real and Politico's scoop verified, the leak could indicate an attempt by a pro-abortion leftist within the court to fire up abortion advocates and either sway the Court and/or spur Democrat lawmakers to rush to codify abortion rights.
