Rep. Waters: I Wonder If Trump is ‘Taking His Cues From Putin’

Eric Scheiner | March 8, 2017

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) may have skipped out on President Donald Trump’s address to the joint session of Congress last week but she is still offering her critique.

“I’m surprised that anybody believed him when he read from his script when he came to the Congress," Waters told Joy Reid on MSNBC over the weekend. "Instead of other journalists saying, ‘Oh – he really did transform himself, he was so presidential. I think he’s on his way’ – I never believed that."

Waters was critical of the Trump administration's goals, zeroing in on the repeal of Obamacare and the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Southern border.

“The man is not trustworthy, he makes promises. As a matter of fact, I wonder sometimes if he’s not taking his cues from Putin,” Waters said. “Because he thinks he can do what Putin does, in terms of just tell people what to do, direct the whole Congress what to do.”
