Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie (R) Tuesday led a principled rebellion against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her empress-style edict that all elected representatives must wear masks in the House Chamber or suffer a $500-per-violation fine.
And Massie, an MIT grad who holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, did more than resist Her Highness’s command, he pulled back the proverbial curtain to note what he sees as the phony posing of the “mask promoters” in D.C.
Joined by Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Chip Roy (R-TX), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Madison Cawthorn (R-NC), Beth Van Duyne (R-TX), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Mary Miller (R-ILL), and Brian Mast (R-FLA), Massie defied Pelosi, and soon tweeted:
Thought America might like to know this... Few congressmen or staff or guards are wearing masks in the hallways or offices. ONLY ON THE FLOOR FOR TV. It’s all theatrics folks.
The latter of which could describe pretty much all of the establishment political class and their sycophantic media friends.
And Massie added:
We’ve had enough. We are refusing to wear our masks on the floor during this vote in spite of Pelosi’s threat to take $500 from each of us. Her rule is not based on science. All you need to know is the mask rule has only ever applied to members when they can be seen on TV!
NBC’s Haley Talbot Dartunorro Clark report that Pelosi’s Police State Order claims the power to fine the transgressors $500 for the “first offense”, and $2,500 for the second. Rumor has it that government-mandated attendance to a recording of ABC’s “The View” could be the punishment for the third.
And, as Talbot and Clark write:
Later Tuesday, a Capitol official confirmed that first offense warnings for not following the mask rules would be issued to Boebert, Massie, Green, Roy, Good, Gohmert and Mary Miller.
Mast, Van Duyne and Rep. Marianette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, will be fined $500 for a second related offense, the official said.
Which is pretty darned remarkable, considering the fact that Pelosi not only has no constitutional power to impose fines on members of the House, she is prohibited from forcing “conditions” on Reps for them to exercise their constitutionally provided role in participating in sessions of Congress.
If Pelosi can mandate that people wear certain kinds of accouterments in order to exercise what they are constitutionally allowed to do, can she order Republicans to wear t-shirts supporting abortion or the tax-funding of it? How about those classically offensive shirts featuring central American communist and mass murder Che Guevara? How about forcing them to wear shirts supporting the candidacy of their opponents?
The posturing is more than painful, it’s insulting to anyone who has an understanding of the rules of the government Pelosi swore to uphold. This is the woman who keeps pushing the cockamamie “insurrection” narrative when talking about the January Capitol trespass, when, in fact, she leads a legislative and policy insurrection against her oath virtually every minute she is in that tax-funded building.
And to top it off, Pelosi’s mask command comes after the unconstitutional and tax-funded Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said that those who’ve been injected with one of the many “emergency use” mRNA gene jabs can congregate in enclosed places without magic masks (the efficacy of which people still debate).
Has it ever crossed her mind that the “optics” she tries to push (particularly the idea that this so-called “pandemic” is so serious, everyone has to wear masks even though they don’t have to, and cannot be forced to do so) fade into irrelevance compared to her contempt for the US Constitution and her mandate that Americans pay for a CDC the “guidelines’ of which she doesn’t even follow?
Given her long track record of elitism, that is unlikely.
