Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) says she’s willing to work on a “comprehensive solution” to immigration, but not one that talks just about border security “because that is simply a waste of our energy and our resources.”

At a Democratic press conference in Baltimore Tuesday Sanchez said that Republicans had failed in the past to address immigration, which is why former President Barack Obama had to issue executive orders “to provide relief.”

“If they want to raise the issue of comprehensive immigration reform, I’m interested in sitting down and listening,” Sanchez said. “But it’s got to be a real meaningful solution, it’s got to be a comprehensive solution -and not a solution that simply talks about border security, because that is simply a waste of our energy and our resources.”

“As Joe (Rep. Joe Crowley) said we have infrastructure around the country that is crumbling and to foolishly think that building some kind of huge, hulking wall in remote areas of the desert where people don’t even go – just a huge burden for taxpayers and not something that’s going to fix our immigration system.”
