Less than a full day after Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) joined other GOP lawmakers in introducing articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the House Freedom Caucus member made another announcement that could shape the future of Congress.

Jordan announced in a letter to his fellow members of Congress that he will run for Speaker of the House of Representatives when retiring Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan steps down later this year.

“Should the American people entrust us with the majority again in the 116th Congress, I plan to run for Speaker of the House to bring real change to the House of Representatives,” Jordan wrote.

Jordan also wrote how President Trump has accomplished quite a bit without the help of the GOP-controlled Congress.

“President Trump has taken bold action on behalf of the American people,” Jordan continued. “Congress has not held up its end of the deal, but we can change that. It’s time to do what we said.”

Jordan’s entering the race to become speaker could hit a couple of speed-bumps considering Fox News reported that Jordan “plans to mount an anti-establishment run for speaker of the House.”

The Ohio congressman also could face continued questions about what he knew about the Ohio State University sexual abuse scandal when he was the assistant wrestling coach at the college. Jordan has vehemently denied having any knowledge of those goings-on.

“I've talked to all sorts of colleagues," Jordan said. "They can all see through that story.”

Fox News reported that “Jordan would face likely competition from House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), and others.”
