Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) in an interview with Fox News on Friday slammed fired FBI Director James Comey for his new book in which he describes President Trump as “unethical, and untethered to the truth.”
In the book entitled “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership”, Comey attacks Trump as an “ego-driven” mob boss who demands “loyalty oaths” and goes so far as to question the strength of Trump’s marriage to First Lady Melania after revealing that Trump asked him to investigate salacious allegations about his actions with Russian prostitutes.
Gowdy said that “it’s sad” he and Comey had actually agreed that the U.S. needs “an apolitical FBI” and yet he “can’t think of anyone who has done a better job of politicizing the FBI than he has in the last 36 or 48 hours…”
“I think it’s sad. One of the things Director Comey and I did agree on is we needed an apolitical FBI. We had some fairly heated exchanges about that. I can’t think of anyone who’s done a better job of politicizing the FBI than he has in the last 36 to 48 hours by talking about tanning bed goggles and the length of a tie,” Gowdy said.
“That is beneath the dignity of the offices that he held," he added. “So I’m really disappointed.”
Gowdy also commented on how it’s ironic that Democrats and liberals are praising Comey for writing this tabloid-type book talking about Trump’s hands and how he has white circles around his eyes from tanning goggles, when “it was Democrats that wanted to put him in jail this time last year.”
“It was Democrats that wanted to put him in jail this time last year. It wasn’t Republicans. He had a tough 2016, but he’s making it worse by writing this kind of a tabloid book.”
Comey’s book is set to be released next Tuesday. He is planning a media blitz to promote his book, starting off with an interview with ABC set to air on Sunday.
