Democratic Rep Vows 'That Wall Will Not Be Built' Along the Border

During a press conference about President Trump’s first 100 days in office, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) said that Democrats are “pleased” that Trump is allegedly “backing off” from building a border wall with Mexico, adding that even Republicans along the border do not want to see the wall “ever built.”

After talking about bipartisanship to keep the government running, Crowley said, “What we’ve said in the past and continue to say, there will be no wall. And we’re pleased that the president has indicated that he is backing off from a wall.”

Crowley said Democrats want to evaluate whether the continuing resolution contains any “border enhancement” measures, such as moves to hire more U.S. Border Patrol agents.

“But we are pleased the president is finally backing off from the wall that Mexico would build this beautiful wall, and every time there was some outcry about it, it would grow 10 feet taller,” Crowley continued. “That wall will not be built. It’s not going to happen. And I think the sooner, the better the president realizes that there’s no appetite, not only from Democrats, but for Republicans along the border as well, to not want to see that wall ever built.”
