Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) took his anti-border wall message to union workers this past weekend, claiming that “we don’t need a wall” at our southern border, but we may need walls at schools,  “and we certainly don’t need those walls paid for by Mexicans and Mexico – they need to be paid for by us.”

It what be one of the most intriguing school/border security/tax plan arguments in recent years Cohen told the crowd of teachers and sanitation workers attending the “Working people’s Day Of Action” event that Trump’s tax bill helped the wealthy, before heading into the issue of school security.

“There are some teachers here, thank you,” Cohen said. “You do not need a gun. You may need more counselors. And we don’t need a wall between the United States and Mexico; we may need some security around schools, that’s more important. And we certainly don’t need those walls paid for by Mexicans and Mexico - they need to be paid for by us.”

If you watch the video above, you may chuckle as the applause from the audience diminishes on that last line. It seems the honest truth that Cohen wants more taxes on Americans, doesn’t get the crowd as thrilled as he would have hoped.
