Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D – Ore.) took to the House floor to insist that the riots in Portland are not out of control.

“Portland, Oregon, is not out of control," Blumenauer said Tuesday. “To be sure, there are some people who have strong feelings and there are some who have done things that are inappropriate and unlawful.”

Blumenauer claimed that the Trump administration is “declaring war” on Portland by sending in federal troops to protect federal buildings.

“That is the challenge of our local officials and our state officials to manage it, not having somebody unwelcome, uninvited and unprepared, coming in to take this difficult situation and make it worse,” Blumenauer said.

President Donald Trump has called the situation in Portland “totally out of control” and has backed the presence of the federal authorities.

There have been over 50 straights days of protesting and riots in Portland.
