Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) has voiced her support for a “compassionate release” of some older prisoners due to coronavirus concerns.

During an interview with MSNBC host Al Sharpton Saturday, Pressley stated that she believed the Bureau of Prisons should exercise clemency, even going as far as releasing some prisoners who are older and more susceptible to the virus.

“I think now would be the time, to commute some sentences, to exact clemency and to take care of our most vulnerable," Pressley said. Ten percent of those incarcerated are over the age of 60 and already have an underlying condition. We should be using compassionate release.”
