In an appearance on Fox News Thursday morning, Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul blasted the Left for attacking people of faith who dared to offer their prayers in the wake of the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., Wednesday.

“I think when we have these tragedies, I think the first thing that we ought to think about is the victims,” said the Kentucky senator. “I guess what gets me is so often, we immediately go and jump to -- the president, at least -- jumps in and makes this political, when, in reality, this is a human tragedy first.”

He went on, “For someone to mock someone who sincerely believes prayer is something we do in times of need… For people to mock religion, to mock prayer, and then to act as if there’s some law that’s going to fix this, there may well be, but it may not be a gun control law. It may well be a law that says we shouldn’t admit people to this country from certain parts of the world where they’re intent on killing us.”

“Until we know exactly what happened here, for people to be snide, snotty and arrogant about the fact that they believe prayer doesn’t influence our lives, I’m offended by it and quite frankly shocked by that kind of attitude,” said Sen. Paul.

Similarly, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell issued a statement on Thursday blasting the New York Daily News for their new issue entitled "God Isn't Fixing This," blatantly mocking people of faith like Paul who offered their prayers -- or what the paper deems "meaningless platitudes" -- to the shooting victims and their loved ones.

Bozell is calling for the paper’s publisher to issue an apology, fire the person responsible for approving the cover page, and launch an investigation into the personnel and polices of the publication.
