Rand Paul SHAMES Fauci: 'Your Persistent Denials...are a Clear and Present Danger'

The, what seems like, pandemic-long feud between Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden and Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Dr. Anthony Fauci continued on Thursday in front of the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee.

Paul didn’t hold back one bit in his assessment of Fauci’s alleged falsehoods when it comes to both the lab leak theory and the much argued about origin of funding for gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The Kentucky senator got right to it in the opening of his remarks:

Dr. Fauci, I don’t expect you today to admit that you approved of NIH [National Institutes of Health] funding for gain-of-function research in Wuhan. But your repeated denials have worn thin and a majority of Americans, frankly, don’t believe you.

Even the NIH now admits that EcoHealth Alliance did perform experiments in Wuhan that created viruses not found in nature that actually did gain in lethality.

The facts are clear. The NIH did fund gain-of-function research in Wuhan, despite your protestations. You can deny it all you want, but even the Chinese authors of the paper, in their paper, admit that viruses not found in nature were created, and yes, they gained in infectivity.

Your persistent denials, though, are not only a stain on your reputation, but are a clear and present danger to the country and to the world.

Paul’s opening remarks continued for about a minute-and-a-half before he flat out asked Fauci to make an admission.

“Will you today finally take some responsibility for funding gain-of-function research in Wuhan?” Paul asked.

Fauci dodged the question by answering Paul with disagreements on pretty much every single point that the senator brought up, while simultaneously using the defense of the definition the NIH has for gain-of-function research.

The problem with that?

Well, about a little over two weeks ago The Epoch Times reported that the NIH “explanation” of gain-of-function research “was wiped” from its website “between Oct. 19 and Oct. 21 — possibly ahead of the NIH’s most recent disclosures on Oct. 20 about research it funded in China that increased the potency of a virus by modifying it.”

Basically, the NIH knew they were in deep doo-doo, and that their definition could possibly implicate them in the funding of such research in China, so they removed the original definition and replaced it with one that covered their bases.

Paul referenced that exact point in his rebuttal to Fauci’s combativeness.

“This is terrible,” Paul said, “and you’re completely trying to escape the idea that we should do something about trying to prevent a pandemic from leaking from a lab. The preponderance of evidence now points to this coming from the lab, and what you’ve done is change the definition on your website to try to cover your ass, basically.”

Paul and Fauci exchanged in some back-and-forth before the committee chairwoman, Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), gave Fauci the last say once Paul’s time was up.
