Rand Paul Fires Back: Promises to Stay in Race 'Just as Long as Trump, or Longer'

Sen. Rand Paul has responded to Donald Trump’s allegation that he will soon drop out of the presidential race.

Trump posted a series of tweets aimed at Paul’s presidential campaign Tuesday morning. Trump claimed Paul “has been driven out of the race by my statements about him.”

Trump then stated that “when” Paul drops out of the race, Paul’s supporters should support Trump because he (Trump) will “do a much better job for them.”

Yesterday, Paul said he would be in the race “just as long as Trump, or longer.”

Asked about the attacks on Twitter, Paul told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that it is “silly season any time Donald Trump opens his mouth.”

Paul continued, characterizing Trump as not being a “real conservative.”

“But I would say, something that’s very important for Republicans, is that he’s not a real conservative. No real conservative would have supported a single-payer system for medical or health care, no real conservative would support raising taxes, and no real conservative would have supported President Obama's government stimulus plan,” Paul stated.

“And I think really, probably, the most offensive thing that is he is for, is actually for taking private property through eminent domain, from small property owners, and giving it to big corporations like his,” Paul said. “I think, really, most of the people in the Tea Party—like myself—we were upset about people manipulating the government for their own personal benefit. And I think that’s the essence of who Donald Trump is.”
