Rachel Dolezal, the woman who stirred up controversy after it was discovered that the former NAACP chairman was a white woman pretending to be black, has admitted that while she continues to identify as black, she is actually biologically white.

Dolezal admitted to being Caucasian on "The Real," a daytime talk show hosted by women of color, after being confronted by the show's hosts.

"I acknowledge I was biologically born white to white parents, but I identify as black,” Dolezal said after host Adrienne Bailon confronted her on her past statements defending her decision to identify as a black woman. Her response received applause from the show's live audience.

Dolezal's situation was brought to national attention after police, who were investigating "racially charged threats" against her, discovered that her parents were both white. Dolezal's birth certificate was later released verifying that fact.

Despite the admission, Dolezal continues to insist that she should be free to identify with whatever racial or ethnic group she chooses.
