Publisher Apologizes After Leaving Israel Off School Maps

Publisher Harper Collins is apologizing after a subsidiary of the company that prints maps made a conscious decision to leave the nation of Israel off of maps and World Atlas maps that were being sold to English-speaking schools in the Arab world.

The map company, Collins Bartholomew, decided to leave the Jewish State off printed maps because they say other regional customers raised objections to the inclusion of Israel in the maps as ”unacceptable.” Objections that Collins Bartholomew described as "local preferences."

Once the fact that Israel had been—quite literally—wiped off the maps, was discovered it was met with outrage on Harper Collins Facebook page.  Realizing their mistake, Harper Collins quickly went into damage control mode and apologized.  The publisher has promised to remove all the inaccurate maps from sale and destroy or "pulp" them.

Harper Collins made a public apology In a statement released on their Facebook page on Wednesday.

"HarperCollins regrets the omission of the name Israel from their Collins Middle East Atlas. This product has now been removed from sale in all territories and all remaining stock will be pulped. HarperCollins sincerely apologizes for this omission and for any offense caused,"
