A protest in support of the Philadelphia man arrested for allegedly shooting multiple police officers only drew a “handful” of supporters after an expected 200 to 300 were expected to show up.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross was in shock when he learned of the rally and couldn't wrap his mind around the logic.
“Sadly, we do have to be there,” Ross told KYW-TV early Friday. “I don’t understand it. There’s certain marches I do understand, this is definitely not one of them.”
The North Philadelphia protest was to show support for Maurice Hill, who is suspected of shooting six police officers during a nearly seven-hour standoff on Wednesday in Philly’s Nicetown-Tioga section. Thankfully, the officers shot sustained non-life threatening injuries and were released from the hospital the same day, according to KYW-TV.
The gunman is currently in jail waiting to be arraigned.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said Thursday Hill will most likely face charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault, among others.
'There will be a lot of charges. These are more than enough charges so that Mr. Maurice Hill may never exit jail,' Krasner said.
The station reported that organizers expected far more participants but it looks like people may have more respect for the police force than they thought.
