Pro-Life Court Victory: Ohio Can Defund Planned Parenthood

Eric Scheiner | March 12, 2019

The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that Ohio can cut state funding to Planned Parenthood.

“These principles establish the following line between what Ohio may do and what it may not do,” the majority opinion by Judge Jeffery Sutton says. “It may choose not to fund a private organization’s health and education initiatives. Private organizations do not have a constitutional right to obtain governmental funding to support their activities.”

The ruling on Tuesday overturns a lower court decision that blocked the state from withholding about $1.5 million from the abortion provider.

Politico reports that four of the 11 Sixth Circuit judges who sided with Ohio in Tuesday's decision were appointed by President Donald Trump.
