Teacher, Nancy Atwell is the first-ever recipient of the "Global Teacher Prize," which has been described by some as the Nobel Prize of teaching.

After winning the award, Atwell appeared on CNN and was asked what she would say to kids who might be considering teaching as a profession.  Her answer--which is at the 1:45 mark in this video--will shock you.

“Because public school teachers are so constrained right now by the Common Core standards and the tests that are developed to monitor what teachers are doing with them. It is a movement that has turned teachers into technicians, not reflective practitioners.  And if you are a creative, smart young person I don’t think this is the time to go into teaching unless an independent school would suit you."

Not exactly a ringing endorsement from a woman who is now one of the most respected members of her profession, is it?
