President Donald Trump took time to comment on gun control before leaving for Puerto Rico on Tuesday, telling reporters, "we'll be talking about gun laws as time goes by."

Addressing a crowd of reporters in front of the White House, the president also made it clear that now was not the time to talk about changing the laws.

"Look we have a tragedy, and what happened in Las Vegas is in many ways a miracle. The police department has done such an incredible job and we'll be talking about gun laws as time goes by," the president said.

Trump's comments reiterated those made by White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who told reporters this week, "There is a time and place for a political debate, but now is the time to unite as a country."

Trump praised the police response to the Las Vegas massacre, saying, "How quickly the police department was able to get in was really very much a miracle. They've done an amazing job."

When pressed by reporters to talk about specific pieces of gun control legislation, President Trump declined to give any details.
