Whether you generally agree with President Trump or not, it’s beyond me how anyone wouldn’t be onboard with protecting children and adults with Down syndrome.

The president, along with First Lady Melania Trump, commemorated Down Syndrome Awareness Month by releasing a presidential statement that in part eluded to their support of preserving the lives of unborn babies that have been diagnosed with Down syndrome.

“Despite some persistent myths and stigmas, even within the medical community, our Nation strongly embraces the undeniable truth that a Down syndrome diagnosis is an opportunity to embrace God’s gifts,” the statement read. “I stand for life – in all of its beautiful manifestations – and I, and my Administration, will continue to condemn the prejudice and discrimination that Americans with Down syndrome too often endure.”

Around the world abortions involving unborn babies diagnosed with Down syndrome has unbelievably been a very hot button topic. Pro-abortion advocates claim that a woman should be able to choose whether or not she has an abortion, no matter what kind of “clump of cells” the procedure involves.

Case in point is a March 2018 Washington Post opinion article, penned by Deputy Editorial Page Editor Ruth Marcus. The title of the article? “I would’ve aborted a fetus with Down syndrome. Women need that right.”

All you need to know about the pro-abortion crowd when it comes to aborting babies with Down syndrome is two sentences from Marcus’ article.

“I can say without hesitation that, tragic as it would have felt and ghastly as a second-trimester abortion would have been, I would have terminated those pregnancies had the testing come back positive,” Marcus wrote. “I would have grieved the loss and moved on.”

But, the president and first lady understand the value of those with Down syndrome.

“Together, we recommit to deepening our understanding of Down syndrome and learning more about how we can ensure the beautiful people with Down syndrome are able to fully participate in society,” the Trump’s wrote in the statement. “We will always support the dreams of those with Down syndrome, and respect and honor the sanctity of their lives, at every stage.”

With all of different “lifestyles” that the Left typically trumpets, why does it seem like the Down syndrome community isn’t one of those accepted lifestyles?

The president and first lady said it best.

“Life is precious, and it is our moral duty to protect and defend it.”

I'll leave the last word to Frank Stephens, an advocate for people with Down syndrome:
