During President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania’s surprise visit to troops at the Al Asad Air Base in Iraq on Wednesday, a soldier told the president that he reenlisted in the military because of him.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders shared the story on Twitter, calling it a “powerful moment.”
"Powerful moment - Member of United States Army told the President he came back into the military because of him. And President Trump responded, 'And I am here because of you,'" Sanders tweeted. "I met him after and he gave me the patch from his arm. Incredible."
In video of the exchange, Trump is heard saying that the soldier told him he came back into the military because of him, to which Trump responded, “And I am here because of you, so we have something in common.”
The two then took a selfie together and instead of saying, “Cheese!” the soldier said, “Keep America great.”
