Pope Francis created quite a stir today with his opening address at “The Complementarity of Man and Woman” Vatican conference.

The Pope discussed how “today marriage and the family are in crisis.” He stated that “children have a right to grow up in a family with a father and a mother capable of creating a suitable environment for the child’s development and emotional maturity.” Moreover, that is it because of this right that “the contribution of marriage to society is “indispensable.”

Many claim that Pope Francis' opening remarks defend and reinforce the Catholic Church's long-held stance on the traditional definition of marriage.

Several have taken to Twitter to express their outrage, relief, and disbelief.

Those in disagreement with his remarks called the Pope "anti-gay" and "anti-Christ" among other names.
