A group of climate change activists have started a movement to randomly slash the tires of parked SUVs in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to Fox News.

On Tuesday of last week, The Tyre Extinguishers, a climate awareness organization that started in the U.K., took to the streets of New York City and slashed the tires of at least 40 SUVs in the city’s Upper East Side neighborhood.

The organization has announced their main goal on their website: “To make it impossible to own a huge polluting 4x4 in the world’s urban areas. We are defending ourselves against climate change, air pollution and unsafe drivers.”

While they have been mainly active in the U.K. and in different parts of Europe, this was the first time the Tyre Extinguishers have struck on U.S. soil. They are now vowing to conduct similar actions across the nation.

"We are rapidly expanding across the United States and are in touch with people in major cities across the USA," one of their spokespersons told Fox News Digital. "We expect this to expand massively."

The spokesperson made no comment on the legality of the organization’s actions.

Unfortunate Manhattan car owners returned to their vehicles to find at least one tire slashed in each of their cars and a pamphlet smacked on to their windshields which read: "ATTENTION - your gas guzzler kills. We have deflated one or more of your tires. You’ll be angry, but don’t take it personally. It’s not you, it’s your car."

We did this because driving around in urban areas in your massive vehicle has huge consequences for others.

"The world is facing a climate emergency," it continued. "We're taking actions into our own hands because our governments and politicians will not."

The pamphlet then insulted the drivers, saying, “Psychological studies show SUV drivers are more likely to take risks on the road. SUVs are unnecessary, and pure vanity.” It then adds “You will have no difficulty getting around without your gas guzzler, with walking, cycling, and public transit.”

A New York Police Department Spokesperson told Fox News Digital that while no arrests have been made yet, the investigation remains ongoing.

The group said in a statement Tuesday, "The Tyre Extinguishers want to see bans on SUVs in urban areas, pollution levies to tax SUVs out of existence, and massive investment in free, comprehensive public transport."

The right to peacefully possess one’s own property without damage is a fundamental right in our 1st amendment. It’s time to stop these radicals from damaging private property and denying our basic human rights before they go further.
