A new Gallup Poll shows that while a majority of Americans (59%) continue to support Planned Parenthood--despite the release of videos exposing the organizations practice of selling fetal tissue to private buyers--the organizations popularity has plummeted over the last two decades.

In 1993, the last time Gallup conducted a survey to determine support for the organization, Planned Parenthood was viewed favorably by 81% of the American public. Since Gallup never conducted the poll in the 22 years in between, it is unclear as to just how big of a role the recent videos have played in the abortion provider's diminishing support. over the years.

The poll shows that since 1993, the percentage of Americans who hold a favorable view of Planned Parenthood has dropped by 27% among Independents, 34% among republicans, 20% among men and 24% among women.  Support for the organization has only dropped 9% among Democrats since 1993.

Gallup conducted the survey on one other occasion in 1989 and found that Planned Parenthood enjoyed the support of 79% of the American public.

The poll's results were based on telephone interviews conducted Oct. 7-11, 2015, with a random sample of 1,015 adults.
