In a CBS poll released today, 80% of Americans said they are not better off than they were 4 years ago, as National Review's Jim Geraghty points out:

Compared to four years ago, is your family’s financial situation better today, worse today, or about the same?

The survey finds 20 percent say better today, 37 percent say worse today, and 43 percent say “about the same.”

This number is a 15% increase from a similar Bloomberg National Poll conducted on June 17-20, 2011, when 65% said they were either 'worse off' or 'about the same', with 34% responding 'better off'.
