Nearly half of Americans believe the media are biased against law enforcement and biased in favor of minorities.
YouGov asked 1,000 American adults from July 12-13 their opinion on how the media covers issues surrounding the police.
A plurality of those polled responded that the media are biased against police officers (44 percent).
Approximately half as many respondents indicated that they believe the media are biased in favor of the police (23 percent).
When it comes to alleged police brutality issues involving minorities, 43 percent of those polled responded that they believe the media are biased in favor of racial minorities. Only a quarter of respondents claimed the media are based against minorities.
The YouGov poll was conducted after five police officers were killed in Dallas during a Black Lives Matter protest by a Black Lives Matter sympathizer. The shooting came after the deaths of two black men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, in incidents that some consider police brutality.
Since YouGov asked Americans for their opinions, three police officers have been killed by an activist who spoke about fighting back against police.
There has also recently been a rise in police being refused service by businesses because of their profession.
YouGov’s poll was conducted via Web-based interviews. The margin of error is ± 4.7% (adjusted for weighting).
