POLL: Less than Half of Democrats Support Israel Over Palestinians

A newly released Gallup poll shows that Democrats are far less sympathetic to Israel than to the Palestinians when it comes to the tensions in the Middle East.

When asked whether they sympathize more with the Israelis or the Palestinians, only 48% of the-described Democrats said they sympathized with the Jewish State.  That's the lowest number since 2010.

That number stands in stark contrast to the 83% of Republicans and 59% of Independents who say they sympathize more with Israel.

Overall, 62% view Israel more favorably, while only 16% sympathize more with the Palestinians.

The poll also found that the percentage of Democrats viewing Israel favorably has dropped 14 points over the last year - from 74% to 60%.

Overall, Americans tend to view Israel favorably.  70% of those surveyed claimed to have a positive view of Israel while only 17% had a favorable view of the Palestinian authority.

Still there is a deep partisan divide when it comes to who Americans sympathize with and in terms of who they blame for the ongoing violence in the region.
