POLL: Large Majority Opposes Obama's Executive Amnesty

In a survey of 1,593 registered voters, Americans said they oppose President Obama's executive action that would grant amnesty to millions of a illegal immigrants.

By a margin of 58% to 36% those surveyed said they opposed  Obama's "...executive action allowing as many as four million undocumented immigrants to avoid deportation and seek jobs in the United States."

In addition, when asked the question "Do you support or oppose Republicans in Congress taking away federal funding for this executive order?" 53% of those surveyed said they supported such an action while 36% said they would be opposed.

Interestingly, the poll also shows that many of those who are in favor of the president's executive amnesty also want to strengthen existing rules that make it illegal for businesses to hire illegal immigrants.

When asked "Would you support or oppose Congress passing new legislation that strengthens the rules making it illegal for businesses in the U.S.. to hire illegal immigrants?" 71% of the survey's participants said they favored such a move while only 21% were opposed. Of those who voted for Barack Obama in 2012, 58% favored such a change.

The poll was conducted by the Paragon Insights polling firm  and was conducted between January 22 and January 25 of this year.
