Democratic politicians have been loudly criticizing Republicans for their allegedly bigoted remarks regarding Muslim immigration. A new poll, however, shows only 27 percent of Democrats hold a favorable view of Islam.

A new YouGov poll conducted from Dec. 5-7 asked 1,000 Americans about their attitudes towards Islam.

The poll found Americans, in general, were over three times more likely to have an unfavorable view of Islam than a favorable opinion.

While 17 percent of Americans polled responded they have positive view of Islam (4 percent “very favorable,” 13 percent “somewhat favorable”), 58 percent responded they have an unfavorable view (23 percent “somewhat unfavorable," 35 percent “very unfavorable”).

A majority of Republicans (75 percent), a majority of Independents (58 percent), and a plurality of Democrats (45) all responded they have an unfavorable view of Islam.

Just 11 percent of Republicans, 15 percent of Independents, and 27 percent of Democrats responded they have a favorable view of Islam.

Although Democrats held the most favorable view of Islam, almost twice as many Democrats responded they have an unfavorable view of Islam than a favorable view.
