Nearly three-fourths of Donald Trump supporters believe there will be violence at the Republican National Convention this summer if Trump does not win the Republican presidential nomination.

An Economist/YouGov poll conducted from April 8-11 asked 2,000 Americans how likely they believe violent protests will be at the Republican National Convention this summer.

Of the Republican primary voters polled who prefer Trump, 72 percent responded it is “likely” there will be violence at the convention if Trump is not the nominee.

A majority of Americans also believe there will be violence at the Republican National Convention if Trump is not the nominee.

The poll found 68 percent of all Americans, including 71 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of Independents, and 70 percent of Republicans responded it is either “very likely” or “somewhat likely” there will be violence at the Republican National Convention if Trump is not the Republican nominee.

In general, 69 percent of all respondents believe it is likely there be violent protests at the Republican National Convention (27 percent responded violence is “very likely” while 42 percent responded it is “somewhat likely”) regardless of whether Trump is the nominee.

Only 20 percent of all respondents replied it is either “not very likely” (15 percent) or “not likely at all” (5 percent) that there will be violent protests at the convention.

A majority of Democrats (72 percent), Independents (67 percent), and Republicans (70 percent) all responded it is either “very likely” or “somewhat likely” there will be violence.

The YouGov/Economist poll was conducted via Web-based interviews. The margin of error is ± 2.8% (adjusted for weighting),
