A Pacific gray whale put on quite a show for onlookers at Redondo Beach pier on Wednesday.
The moment was captured by local news site The Daily Breeze.
Visitors to the Southern California beach witnessed the whale playfully splashing and rolling around in the surf, spouting as it came up for air.
Ocean biologists suspect that the whale is a yearling making its first annual migration independently of his or her mother.
